COLE HAM
9 months old (38 weeks) on October 16, 2005

Our little guy is getting BIG! I think I can leave this statement here for each entry.
Cole is about 24lbs now .We still need to measure him. He is very long; heads above
most of the other babies his age.

We have spent most of his 9th month house hunting and closing on our new house.
What an ordeal and a stress. We closed on November 18th and moved in to the new
house on Thanksgiving weekend.

Cole's two top teeth are now coming in slowly. These are not bothering him as much
as his first two, but he has had his painful moments and his biting.

He is talking a lot. One night when John came into the bedroom. Cole looks up and said
"Dada". He also "up" when I asked his if he wanted to get up. He repeats the words
like me. It's so cute in his little voice. We were looking at a photo album and a photo of a
baby and I said, "do you see the baby Cole?", and he said "baby". Besides talking
at times, he has been communicating by pointing and grunting and signing.

At 9.5 months Cole started lifting his butt in the air when on his belly; most often in bed,
but sometimes on the rug. When he wakes up at night he is often on his hands and
knees. He also nurses to sleep and is constantly trying to get on his hands and
knees and head butts me. He gets out of breath and then falls over asleep. We finally
placed our mattress on the floor and got rid of our boxspring. This way, if Cole
decides to move in his sleep of wake up without us hearing him.

Oct 17th at the Mother's support network, New Mom's Group, he moved from
one end of the room to the other pulling himself and rolling over. I was amazed at
the distance he traveled. Oct 24th, at the group he had his eye on a ball about a
foot from his reach and he started fussing. I got down with him and encouraged
him. He eventually pushed himself on his belly and reached the ball. Within a week
Nov 1st, while visiting Susan and Emma Gene, Cole was moving all over the place
on his belly - the army crawl - I started crying watching him move about.
Along with his moving came a great need to be close to me. He started clinging
to me and crying almost the moment he moved away. This separation anxiety
lasted for about 2 weeks and then tapered off. It was an extremely difficult
time for me. It was demanding emotionally since I was not getting enough
sleep. but like everything else, it does not last for long. He is now moving very
fast on his belly. We had him outside in the driveway while we were having a yard
sale and cole loved it. He explored the yard, dirt, leaves, rocks. We played
with a ball and toy cars. He is like a new boy. not a baby.

Along with the crawling, he has just about mastered pushing himself up to
sitting position. Just like that. He is also trying to pull himself up on things.
Mostly us and he is quite good at it! Because he is moving, he is not
sleeping that well. He does not have time for naps. There have a been a few
days where he did not take any nap even though he was clearly exhausted.
Mostly he sleeps a half hour each day.

Cole started clapping. He even does it when he is half asleep and when
he first wakes up in the morning. He even makes noise when he does it.
He is obsessed with door knobs and light switches. We have to stop and
check them out all over the house. Especially the front door and lock and
the front door knocker. Every time we enter and leave we take a few moments
to check out these.

Cole got his first sickness in October and we took him to the doctor. I can't
remember the name of the infection, but he was hurting when he peed.
It was terrible. He took amoxicillian for a week and it cleared up. He then
ended up with a urinary tract infection. Our pediatrician wanted to give him
another antibiotic, but I opted to give him some homeopathic remedy since
it was not as severe as before. I gave him some concentrated cranberry powder
in water and some Pau D'arco. This has cleared it up.

Cole's hair is getting long in the back (and front) and it curls up in the back
after his bath. His hair color is not dark like John's, but dark and light brown and
copper colors like mine. I love it. I had been threatening John that we would have the
first redheaded korean boy. I may have gotten my wish.

I'm playing catchup with the website this time around and will be finishing up
his tenth month tonight too. enjoy.
