COLE HAM
12 months old on January 16, 2006

One year old!!!! It is so hard to believe Cole is one year. One year ago
I was laboring through his delivery, at home, in the tub. He was born
at 5:03 am. I can remember the disbelief I felt as he was born. I just could
not believe I had delivered a baby. I had a baby. It still freaks me out.

Cole is the most precious person. He is so sweet and loving. He loves
to laugh and dance and read and watch the birds and loves to be
outside and play in the dirt. He loves to tickle and to take baths.
He loves to study the pages in his Wheels on the Bus book while
in his carseat. He loves to throw a ball and push his car. He hears the
planes and helicopters go by overhead and listens for the fire engine
and the trucks and buses as they go by. He loves to see the birds fly
over his head and the leaves blow in the wind. He loves to be outside
and ride in his red wagon. He loves to push his red wagon. He loves
to watch the other kids play at the park. He loves to stand in the
front window and watch the day go by. He loves to crawl out the front
door as fast as possible and maneuver himself down the stairs.
He races to the refridgerator each time he hears it open so he can
rearrange all the food on the shelves. He loves to do the same with

the dishes in the dishwasher. He loves to help John cook. He loves
play peek-a-boo at anytime, anywhere. He loves his dogs and ducks
and loves to point them out in his books. and he loves balloons.

Cole weighs 26.5 lbs. He is officially a workout. I have the muscles to prove it.
He is taller too, about 33". He looks so huge lying in out bed at night.
He also looks huge when he stands up from sitting down. He can now
reach up to the counter tops and grab things on the edge. He tries to
tilt his head up so he can see what is up there. You see these two dark
eyes looking up trying to choose the best thing to grab.

For Cole's first birthday, we went to Southern California to visit John's
family and have a traditional Korean first birthday party. This entails
lots of family, food and photgraphs. When we first arrive at John's
brother's house, Cole is whisked away by John's Mom to be dressed
in the traditional clothing. Check out this website for details on the
clothing, food and tradition.
The night was overwhelming for all of us with all the photographs
and all the relatives. But it was so nice for John's family to come to
the party. We had not seen most of them since our wedding three
years ago.
It was great to catch up with everyone and to see Cole
enjoying time with all his cousins.

This month we spent time at the beach. A day at Venice beach with
John's sister Gina and her family and with my Dad and brother Chris,
who had come with us for Cole's party. We also went to San Diego
to visit a friend of mine. Cole loved playing in the sand. Mostly he
throw sand up over his head. He also tried to eat it a few times by
face planting himself with his mouth open.

Cole's teething is back with a vengence. I'm not sure which teeth
are coming in. I can't see anything yet, but Cole is having trouble
sleeping and has woke up in pain. I am dealing with hourly nursing
at night and sometimes nursing for an hour at a time. I will be happy
when he has all his teeth. He is also going through a growth spurt
and development issues since he is almost walking. The good news is
he is napping great. He usually takes one 2 hour nap in the afternoon.

Cole is really loving the park . We go there almost everyday. He started
crawling around in the wood chips and crawls up on the play structure
now. Some days it is about him climbing up and down the steps, other
days he crawls back and forth on the bridge that bounces. He even
pulls himself up to stand on the bridge and bounces. and he goes down
the slide - head first.

One last thing I will mention is that Cole is communicating so much
more now . Not only with sign language , but with words and gestures.
I can almost always figure out what he wants and he can usually let me
know what he wants. He says "tickle tickle, dog, more, mama, dada,
bird, up, down, ball"
He signs (American Sign Language) -eat, more, hungry, light, milk,
all done, dog, flower, bird, cheese, cook, work, outside, up, down, dada,
hat, hair, head, nose, mouth, ear, eye, leg, arm, diaper, pee, bath, wash up,
home, bed, sleep, thank you, please, sky, diamond, baby, phone, airplane,
crying, music, train, apple, drink. And he can understand so many more.
