COLE HAM
15 months old on April 16, 2006

We had a busy month!

More teething, more throwing up, less sleep for all of us, but more teeth. His
incisors (?) are up! It seems his gums are pink and swollen all the way back
in his mouth. I will be happy when all his teeth are in. It think then we will
be sleeping good.

This month we attended Earth Day at Sac State in Sacramento. I worked for a few hours
at a booth for Mother's Support Network, the mom's group I belong to. We helped
to spread the word about cloth diapers and wearing your baby in a sling. We were
successful on both fronts. John and Cole were there too and had a great time playing
in the grass and watching the other kids run around. There was music, food and lots of
other vendors. It was a great event. As you'll see below, Cole had time with a hula hoop.

I have started taking Cole for swim lessons again. We have gone twice so far.
We are going to a local indoor pool - Dolphin Swim Center on El Camino.
They offer Parent-tot swim classes where you get in the pool with them.
The first time, Cole was nervous. It took us ten minutes to get into the water
and move around. I guess he did not remember that he loved the water when
he was 6 months old! By the end of the 30 minute class he was pretty relaxed
and had dunked his cheeks in the water and jumped in the water to me from
the edge of the pool. By the second class, he had gone underwater twice.
He did not exactly love this, but he did not complain about it either. I am trying
to teach him to close his mouth. He pretty much drinks the water as he goes down.
We'll get there eventually. It's been fun.

We also spent some time at the Whole Earth Festival in Davis. This is a larger,
three day event. There was lots of music, good food and kids. It did not take Cole
long to find the kids area where he waddled off ahead of me. He had fun playing
dress up and putting on necklaces and gold rings. He must get this from my Mom.
I am not one for jewelry. They also had some guys play a few songs on guitar.
Cole loves the guitar. We are fortunate to be borrowing one from friends of ours.
He has made up his own sign for guitar. He plays it everyday, along with the bongo
drums and bells that we have.

Another fun weekend was spent in the Bay Area visiting friends. It has been a year
since we visited there. I miss it a lot and wish we could be living there. Anyway,
we drove there Saturday morning arriving just after noon and met Janeen and Nat
at the Berkeley marina park to have a picnic lunch and watch the kites. Cole
loved watching the kites flying high above us. He also got some time to run
around in the grass and fall all over. It was clearly nap time. In the evening we
went over to Mark, Joanne, Mirella and Nicolo's house for dinner. Cole felt immediately
at home and was playing with everyone and everything. Cole out lasted us all.
Mirella and Nicolo were half asleep on the couch and the rest of us where tired too,
but Cole was running around laughing. It didn't help that Mark and Nicolo went
upstairs to the big bed to go bounce on it.

I can't forget our second Mother's Day. We traveled down south to see John's family.
Every year they have a big BBQ Picnic at a local park and everyone is there. We got
to see all the cousins and aunt and uncles. Cole seemed right at home with all the
other kids, but was afraid of all the adults who tried to squeeze and kiss him any chance
they got. We stayed with John's sister Gina and Jerry and their kids, Sam, Dexter
and Cooper. Cole got to play with the boys!! and get dirty playing with the trucks,
and helping to water the garden. two of his favorite things.

Cole is walking fast now, and I am surprised at how fast he can get around. I turn
around for a second and he is beside me. He is maneuvering stairs much better too
and has even attempted them on his own. Peek a boo is still one of his favorite games.
A new version is around the tree in the back yard. Chase has also become very popular.
It is fun to watch him wobbly around the tree and chase around the backyard.

The only walks Cole likes to go on lately are to the main street, Fruitridge, so he can watch for
trucks going by. He keeps signing "more" over and over. I swear he would sit there all day.
Life is going by quickly now. It is summer soon and we will be traveling to MA in
late July, early August. Hope to see you all soon. Happy Summer.
