COLE HAM
7 months old (30 weeks) on August 16, 2005

Our little guy is getting BIG! I think I can leave this statement here for each entry.
As of September 9, 2005 Cole is 21lbs 13oz and 32.5" long. He is in
the 80th percentile for weight and off the charts in height. I'm not sure where
this comes from. John and I are average height.

We were lucky enough to spend two weeks of his 7 month in Massachusetts
visiting my family. It was great to be with family and to have Cole around
everyone. Also nice to have some time without Cole on my lap. Cole was
fine on the flights to and from Manchester. He slept, nursed and made friends
with our neighboring passengers. He did so well that both John and I were
stopped separately and told that we had such a great baby, so calm on the
flight. People are so funny.

Our biggest news is that Cole got two teeth! The two bottom middle teeth
are coming in at the same time. They are visible, but are not all the way up yet.
They are taking their time and it has been bothersome for Cole. He has not
been sleeping well because of the pain.

Cole started eating food with his hands... picking food up and feeding himself.
While we were at my Dad's, his usually good eating habit of feeding himself
with a spoon, became quite a challenge when he wanted to grab whatever was
on the spoon with his hand. We started giving him cereal that was broken in half
and he would manage to get a few into his mouth. Within 3 days he was eating the
cereal whole and getting most of them in his mouth.

Cole has slowed down on wanting to eat solid foods lately. He started nursing ALOT.
I think it is both growing pains and developmental. A few of the other moms
I know who have babes a few weeks older than Cole all went through the same
thing with their babies. Lots of nursing (every hour) and less eating. So I know
as with everything, it will pass.

Cole is also sitting up on his own now. He does fall reaching for things, but once
laying down he can grab what it was he wanted. Or he started rolling off in all
directions to reach that toy out of reach. He has been experimenting with lifting
his butt off the ground and getting on his knees and has even moved backwards.
He is trying.

He is such a joy to be with. His sense of humor is there. He plays games with me.
He loves peek-a-boo. Still loves to read. We bought him a few books with real baby
photos in them and he just loves to look through them. Two of these books are
baby signs and he has learn to recognize lots of signs now. He loves dog, flower
and hot. He talks a lot too. While we were with my Dad, Cole would talk to my Dad
often. One night at dinner Cole talked to him for at least 30 minutes. He was using
hands as he talked and it really seemed like he was describing what we had done
that day. We had visited the Butterfly Place in Westford, MA and my Dad had
two butterflies that would not leave him alone. They kept on landing on his head
and moving to his ear and glasses. It was crazy. Cole's conversation seemed to be
describing this event. He was waving his hand and touching his head. He is a very
vocal and dexterous boy.
